Man and teen drown in Myrtle Beach

A man who went into the ocean and the teenager he was trying to save both died after being pulled from the ocean near 48th Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach Monday afternoon.

Joshua Walley, 16, of Eutawville, SC, was pronounced dead at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center at 3:39 p.m., Scott Woods, 34, of Longs died there about five minutes later, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Willard tells NewsChannel 15 both Woods and Walley drowned.

Woods arrived at the beach to meet family, when he saw Walley was struggling in the water. Woods went in to save Walley. The two were pulled to the beach by others.

Walley was with his family as well, neither Woods nor Walley knew one another.

William Hoover helped pull one of the men from the water and he talked to WPDE NewsChannel 15 about what happened.

"It was hard to get out there. Kinda second guessed myself once I was out there - what am I doing? But I guess instinct in a situation like that takes over," Hoover said.
