Man accused of stealing cash from firefighter association
A North Carolina businessman is accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from the Scotland County Firefighters Association.
James Rupard of Laurinburg is charged with 71 counts of embezzlement and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
A public information officer with the North Carolina Department of Justice says the charges stem from a year-long investigation.
A judge has set Rupard's bond at $75,000.
