The Lumberton Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) are working two separate crime scenes in the city where bodies have been found, according to Captain Terry Parker with Lumberton police.

He said one body was found Tuesday morning at a home in the 500 block of Peachtree Street and the other was across the street in the 700 block of East 5th Street.

The Robeson County Medical Examiner says one woman was found inside a home and another across the street in a trash can.

No other details are available at this time, but the medical examiner says they're doing an autopsy on both women's bodies to determine how they died.

They are also waiting on the autopsy results to identify the woman.

Neighbors told us that officers were inside the home investigating that woman's death when bystanders found another woman dead in the trash can.

"We all standing over there being nosy as usual. And kept smelling a foul odor. Girl was leaning up on a trash can and say somebody need to move this trash can. And that's when they lifted the lid and there was a body in the trash can," said Dallice Butler.

We will bring you more information when it becomes available to us.
