Lumberton K9 Officer gets new safety vest

A four-legged officer with the Lumberton Police Department is getting a bullet and stab protective vest, according to a release.

K9 Officer "Nero" will get the new protective gear thanks to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a Massachusetts based non-profit organization.

The non-profit collected $950 in donations for the vest.

"We at the Police Department couldn't be more appreciative to Vested Interest. It's nice to know that there are companies out there that are like this. It isn't often that you hear about anyone caring this much about our K9 partners. I seriously can't imagine this Police Department without my partner Nero," said Nero's handler Officer T. Ransom.

Officer R. Morse said, "We were really lucky to find Vested Interest. This is an incredible gift that we probably wouldn't have received without them."

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is an all volunteer charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. Each vest costs $950.00 and has a five-year warranty.
