Lt. General James Vaught found dead outside Conway

Lieutenant General James Vaught has died at age 86, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge confirmed today.

His body was found in a pond off Old Reaves Ferry Road just outside Conway around 5:30 Friday. Edge said they do not suspect foul play.

According to a biography released by the funeral home, the Lt. General was born in Conway and served for more than 38 years before returning to Horry County for retirement.

Even after leaving active service, Lt. General Vaught remained active in the community and as a consultant for the military.

Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway will be handling the services. They will take place Saturday, September 28th at Tilly Swamp Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. The family will accept visitors from noon to 1:30.
