Longs man charged with 23 counts of Ill Treatment of Animals

A 43-year-old Longs man has been arrested in an animal cruelty investigation, and now faces 23 counts of Ill Treatment of Animals.

Horry County police arrested John Patrick Grudzien on Thursday, according to Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police.

On June 18, officers were called to an address on Coney Drive in Longs for a welfare check on several animals.

Officers found two dead dogs on the property, as well as several other dogs that appeared to be emaciated.

There were also many chickens and turkeys on the property.

Officers couldn't make contact with the property owner, so they returned the next day with a search warrant and pick up order for the animals.

They removed 19 dogs from the property, as well as six chickens and three turkeys that were found in very poor living conditions, according to Sgt. Kegler.

All the animals were examined by a Veterinary Technician.

Police issued arrest warrants for Grudzien.

Grudzien turned himself in to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Thursday morning.
