Local surfer fighting for spot at championship surfing event

Local surfer Cam Richards is once again competing against surfers from around the world for a spot in the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles, a stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour.

Richards is one of 16 surfers competing in an online contest for the spot. The winner of the spot will be decided by online votes only.

Public voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Monday PST, which is 2:59 a.m. Tuesday, EST.

Richards also competed in this same contest last year and did not make it past the first round, where he got the second highest number of votes among all the contestants. Only 100 votes separated him and the winner of the contest, according to Surfing Magazine.

You can cast your vote in the contest on the Hurley Pro site.
