Lifeguard hit by jet ski in North Myrtle Beach

A lifeguard in North Myrtle Beach suffered minor injuries when a jet ski, idling at the time, hit him in the ribs.

The lifeguard was assisting in an ocean rescue near 17th Avenue South when he was hit around 1:20 p.m. Monday.

He was assisting Myrtle Beach Water Sports, which had been called to the rescue.

It appears a wave may have pushed the idling jet ski into the lifeguard, according to North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling.

The lifeguard was taken to the hospital.

We're told by a witness at the scene that he swallowed a lot of water.
