Mark Lazarus won Tuesday's Horry County Council Chair runoff election by 1,186 votes, according to the certified results released Thursday morning.
6,311 people cast ballots for Lazarus. 5,125 people voted for Al Allen in the Republican primary runoff election.
Lazurus had 55% of the votes cast.
Turnout was very light. Just 6.46 percent of registered voters in the county cast a ballot.
Horry County Elections Director Sandy Martin said they did have issues Tuesday night with voting machines not "closing out" after the polls closed, which caused a delay in the final results.
In the March 12th primary election, Lazarus received the most votes, but did not have 50% of the vote, forcing the runoff with the next candidate with the most votes, Councilman Al Allen.
No Democrat filed for the race, although a general election will be held on April 30th to allow for possible write-in candidates.
The Horry County Council Chairman's seat opened up when Tom Rice was elected to represent the South Carolina 7th Congressional District.
