Lawsuit against former Horry County police officer settled out of court

(MGN)

A lawsuit against a now-fired Horry County police officer was settled out of court, according to documents filed in federal court.

The lawsuit against Kent Donald and the Horry County Police Department was dismissed on Sept. 21.

The federal civil case was filed by Alex Lorenzo Robinson, who said that Donald intentionally provided false information to obtain a search warrant that resulted in a man spending five years in prison.

Donald was fired for untruthfulness earlier this month after Horry County Deputy Chief Lance Wilburn recommended his termination after it was "determined by the courts that Officer Donald misrepresented the truth in that affidavit."

If a settlement is not "consummated" within a reasonable time, either party may petition the court to reopen the action.

The amount of the settlement has not been released to the public.

The Horry County Police Department has been listed in a number of lawsuits over the last year and four officers were recently indicted on charges of misconduct in office.
