Thu, 17 May 2012 18:21:01 GMT — Lakewood Elementary School was evacuated at 1 p.m. Thursday because of a bomb threat found written on a bathroom wall. The school is usually dismissed at 2:30 p.m. Horry County Schools Spokeswoman Teal Britton says because the threat was found so close to dismissal time, police did not have enough time to clear the building before students were let go for the day. So, students were not be allowed back in to retrieve any belongings. The principal was allowed to go into the school if students needed something of importance, like a key. As of 3:15 p.m. students were getting on their buses and heading home with parents who picked them up. Police are still on the scene working to make sure the building is safe. This is the 21st bomb threat in Horry County schools this year. Britton says those have mostly been in the past six weeks.
