Investigation continues into shooting at Carolina Forest apartments

Horry County police continue to investigate a deadly shooting that took place Saturday afternoon at a Carolina Forest apartment complex.

According to a police report released Monday, an officer arrived on scene at Canterbury Apartments in Carolina Forest after reports of shots fired and at least one possible victim.

The officer saw a gold Ford Expedition that had crashed into a silver Toyota Corolla in the parking lot. He walked around the car and saw a large crowd around a man who was lying on the ground next to the Expedition with gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach and arms, the report said.

Witnesses said they heard 4 to 6 gunshots fired and had seen a black Chrysler 300 speed off after the shots were fired.

Five shell casings were found and taken as evidence.

The victim was Antonio Dexter Smith, 26, of Myrtle Beach, according to the police report.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Smith died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from multiple gun shot wounds.

Horry County Major Crimes Detectives are investigating and there is no suspect at this time.
