Inmate serving time for Surfside burglaries escapes

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is looking for an escaped convict with ties to Horry County. The DOC says Billy Jack Hanna walked away from his job site in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday.
Hanna, 41, was serving a five-year sentence for Larceny out of Horry County, according to the DOC. Hanna had been assigned to the Coastal Pre-release Center, a minimum security facility in Charleston. The DOC says Hanna was found missing from his job site at about 12:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Hanna was arrested at a homeless shelter in Atlantic City, New Jersey in November, 2010, and charged with five counts of Burglary in the First Degree and Grand Larceny out of Horry County. Police say Hanna was involved in a string of burglaries in Surfside Beach. Myrtle Beach police also charged Hanna with Financial Transaction Card Theft.
Hanna is described as a white man with brown eyes, brown hair and a large build. He is approximately six feet tall and weighs 197 lbs. He has a scar near his left ear.
