Inmate killed following fight at Lee County prison (SCDC)

One inmate has died from injuries sustained in a fight Saturday evening at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville , according to South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) Public Information Director Sommer Sharpe.

We're told a second inmate was badly injured in the fight.

Christian Ray, 22, has been identified as the inmate who died from injuries sustained.

Ray was admitted to SCDC on October 28, 2014 and was serving a 7 year sentence for attempted armed robbery in Richland County.

The incident remains under investigation.

Four inmates were found dead back in April in a housing unit at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged two inmates at the prison with four counts of murder in connection with the inmates' deaths.

Some lawmakers have said there is an apparent problem at SCDC’s prisons that needs to be addressed.
