Inmate escapes from federal prison in Bennettsville

US Marshals are looking for Noah Hilton Metz, 45, after he escaped from the Federal Correctional Institution in Bennettsville, according to Chris Burke, Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Guards noticed Metz missing at 10:45 p.m. Thursday from the minimum security work camp division of the prison, Burke said.

They started a search and initiated an internal investigation into how Metz was able to escape.

Metz is serving a 40 month sentence out of North Carolina for possession of an unregistered gun and felon in possession of a gun, Burke said.

Metz is 5'4" and 130 lbs. We should have a picture of him shortly.

Jamie Seals, with the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office, says his agency has not been contacted to assist in the search.
