Inmate dies at J. Reuben Long Detention Center

Around 7:21 Thursday morning, officers at the J. Reuben Long Detention were alerted by an inmate that his cellmate was unresponsive.

Horry County Director of Public Information, Lisa Bourcier issued a news release on the death.

Officers alerted medical staff personnel who initiated CPR and called EMS.

The 30 year-old, white male inmate was pronounced dead at the scene and the Horry County Coroner's Office had the body taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for an autopsy, which will be preformed Friday morning.

The inmate's name is not released, pending notification of the next of kin by the Coroner's Office.

The inmate was incarcerated on July 25, 2009, for trespassing and shoplifting 3rd offense.

As is customary with deaths of inmates, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating.

A preliminary internal investigation has indicated that no foul play has been detected.
