Horry County Special Olympics team wins gold

Special Olympic athletes from Horry County brought home the gold in the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games, which were held in Trenton, New Jersey last week.

On Friday the Horry County Police Unified Basketball team, which represented the state of South Carolina, defeated Oregon in the Finals to win the gold medal for Unified Basketball, according to a news release.

The team was a mix of special olympics athletes and volunteer partners, including several members of the Horry County Police Department.

The following athletes also competed in individual events and brought home medals:

Dawn Eld - 5th Place - Bowling

David Frantom - 8th Place - Bowling

Danielle Kitrilakis and Unified Partner Ryan Westmoreland - Silver Medal- Golf

Stephanie Mack - Bronze Medal- Tennis

Randy Vitale- Gold & Silver - Track/Field

Adam Scroggins - Silver Medal- Track/Field
