A psychologist with Horry County schools was arrested on a drug charge Sunday.
Richard Eric Montgomery, 39, was on a bicycle around 1 a.m. Sunday on School House Drive, when an officer turned on his blue lights to stop him for not having a headlight or a tail light, according to an Horry County police incident report.
Montgomery threw out a crack pipe and lighter and then went about 10 yards further before reaching into his pocket and throwing a white substance on the ground, according to the report.
He's charged with Possession of less than one gram of Cocaine, 1st offense.
Montgomery has been employed with the Horry County school system since October of 2011, according to Horry County schools spokesperson Teal Britton.
He works with students in the Horry County school system, assessing test scores, Britton said.
Montgomery has been placed on paid administrative leave as the district conducts its own investigation into the charges.
He is out on bond.
