Horry County police warn residents of new scam
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 16:33:34 GMT —
Horry County police are warning residents of a scam involving a fake Horry Electric phone call.
Police say people are receiving phone calls from an out of area number by an individual claiming to be a representative of Horry Electric.
The representative says your electric bill is overdue and your power is going to be shut off immediately unless you pay over the phone.
Horry Electric has stated that when communicating with someone who is late on their bill, they first send a second statement to the customer and they will make an automated phone call from a local number to the customer.
Horry Electric also said a person will never call you directly.
If you feel that you have become a victim of this scam, you are encouraged to call 248-1520 to have an Horry County police officer come out and speak with you.
