Horry County Fire Rescue open house showcases firefighting careers

Horry County Fire Rescue and Horry County Schools are having an open house at the Academy for Technology and Academics (ATA) for students interested in careers as firefighters.

The open house gives local students the opportunity to explore a rewarding career as a Firefighter, and provides information about a two year training program for high school juniors and seniors.

"The beauty of this program is it that the children are receiving State Fire Academy certification, so upon turning 18 those certifications are valid they do not have to repeat any of those classes," said Kathy Nieuwenhuis, Public Education Officer with HCFR.

One student who graduated last June, began working with the Conway Fire Department in August.

The open houses will feature instructors and current students, and will take place at ATA, located at 5639 U.S. 701 in Conway. The dates are:

January 9th From 5-7 p.m.

January 23rd from 5-7 p.m.

February 11th from 5-7 p.m.

For more information you can contact the school at (843) 488-6600 or Kathy Niewenhaus with HCFR at (843) 915-7061.

The deadline for application

is February 14.
