Horry County Council to meet with Newt Gingrich about I-73

Horry County Council members have been invited to meet with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich about Interstate 73, according to Horry County spokesperson Lisa Bourcier.

According to a news release, the meeting will take place on Thursday, May 2, at 7:30 a.m., at the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

The proposed I-73 would run from Michigan to Myrtle Beach.

The highway has drawn criticism from environmental groups.

It has also been a major campaign issue for years on the Grand Strand.

Proponents say it would create jobs and bring new industry to the area. Opponents say it will destroy wetlands.

We will post more details on the meeting as we get them.
