Home crushed by tree during storm

A tree fell on a home in Darlington County during a thunderstorm Monday afternoon, narrowly missing a man who was sleeping inside.

Darlington County firefighters say the call came in to 911 just after 2 p.m. Monday, saying the tree collapsed on the double-wide mobile home on Wire Road off Highway 52.

One person was inside, asleep in bed, when the tree fell. It missed the man's bedroom by about 10 feet. He told us he had to break a window to get out.

The Pee Dee Chapter of the American Red Cross will be helping the family find a place to stay.
