Highway dedicated to trooper killed in 1938

Patrolman L. Lawson Rhodes

South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Department of Public Safety honored a trooper killed in the line of duty in 1938 by dedicating a portion of highway to him.

Patrolman L. Lawson Rhodes was on duty in Chesterfield County and died instantly when his motorcycle was struck by a car coming from a side road.

Rhodes was a native of Darlington County.

Friday, part of U.S. Highway 52 in Chesterfield County was dedicated to Rhodes.
