High School basketball coach dies of apparent heart attack

Cheraw High School Head Basketball coach Terrence Ford, 34, died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday night, according to Chesterfield County Schools Public Information Officer Ken Buck.

He coached the Cheraw Braves basketball team for two years and taught physical education at the high school.

"Coach Ford was a product of Chesterfield County Schools and came home to make a positive impact on the children and his community," said Chesterfield County School District Superintendent Dr. Harrison Goodwin in a press release.

Ford grew up in Cheraw and was a standout basketball and football player, Buck said.

"We have brought in counselors from other schools, Tri-County Mental Health, as well as the local faith community, to provide individual counseling for students and staff as needed. Mr. Jason Bryant, the principal at Cheraw High, and his staff, have done a remarkable job of meeting the needs of the children of the school. We will continue to provide support for them during the upcoming days," Dr. Goodwin said.

Coach Ford's funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Cheraw High School.
