Hartsville police give free fans to senior citizens

Hartsville police donated 160 fans to senior citizens Friday morning.

The fans were given out on a first come, first serve basis.

Police say it's their way of giving back to the community.

"Temperatures often reach toward triple digits this time of year, so we are pleased to offer this assistance to residents who would otherwise be exposed to the heat," Police Chief James Hudson said.

Delores Shaw is thankful for her fan. She says she could really use it in this hot weather.

"I feel real good about getting a fan because it be so hot sometimes. And even though you have an air condition sometime it just do do it all."

This is the second year police have donated the fans.

"When we see an outpouring just like this of all these people that are coming in, there is a need. And this is just an opportunity to address some of the needs," said Senator Gerald Malloy(D) Darlington, Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Lee Counties.
