Hartsville Police Department to issue computer printed tickets

The Hartsville Police Department is switching over to new software and printers to print out electronic tickets right in officers cars.

If you get pulled over in Hartsville you’ll soon notice officers will be handing out a new ticket.

The Hartsville Police Department is switching over to new software and printers to print out electronic tickets right in officers cars.

Before officers would hand write tickets and it would take weeks before the federal government found out if a truck driver had multiple tickets.

Officers will now type out the information on their computer and print the ticket. With this new system the tickets will be sent to state and federal agencies in just days.

While drivers in our area won’t notice a difference in the process, Lieutenant Mark Blair said the new technology is part of a federal mandate to help get unsafe drivers off the road.

"For commercial drivers getting citations in different states very close together could affect their commercial drivers license," Lt. Blair said.

The printers will be in every car in the next few weeks.

Lt. Blair said the city is working to roll out an online payment system for tickets.
