Gov. Nikki Haley is ordering Occupy Columbia protesters to leave the South Carolina Statehouse grounds by 6 p.m.
Haley said Wednesday afternoon she is tired of seeing mattresses on the grass and toilet paper in the bushes. She said the protesters are welcome to rally during the day, but she is asking the Bureau of Protective Services to make sure they leave after sunset.
Authorities say anyone who resists the order will be charged with trespassing or disorderly conduct.
Haley says the state has paid $17,000 in additional costs because of the protesters, who have been on Statehouse grounds consistently for the past month.
Some protesters told reporters before Haley's news conference that they will stay.
