In a reversal of four years ago, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is endorsing Gov. Nikki Haley in this year's gubernatorial race.
Haley and business leaders held press conferences on Thursday across the state to announce the endorsement, including one at Ocean Lakes Campground near Myrtle Beach.
The state chamber represents more than 18,000 businesses and says it is endorsing Haley because of her commitment to making job creation and economic development top priorities.
During the press conference Thursday Haley said unemployment in the state is down to 5.3% from its peak of 11.1% and that more people are working today in the state than ever before.
Four years ago, the chamber endorsed Democrat Vincent Sheheen, whom Haley meets in November in a rematch of their 2010 race.
Sheheen said in a release the chamber announcement isn't surprising and reflects a trend in chamber decision making favoring big, out-of-state corporations at the expense of small businesses.
