Thousands of South Carolinians have been filing insurance claims after hail and strong wind gusts tore through our area last Friday.
According to State Farm Reports, there were 7,450 insurance claims made statewide just for that single storm. That number is expected to rise in the coming days.
There were 5,360 wind and hail claims in all in 2013.
"A lot of these claims we are seeing right now are between $5,000- $6,000 on average," according to State Farm Insurance Agent Perry Stalvey.
Stalvey said the hail wasn't large enough and the severe weather didn't last long enough for it to cause significant damages to homes in our area.
It was mostly vehicles that were damaged.
"There's all these quarter sized dents all over my car now, which make it look really cool now and rugged. I'm excited about paying to have my roof or hood either replaced or fixed," said Keith Von De Bur sarcastically as he showed us the damage to his car.
Von De Bur said he wasn't able to shelter his car from the elements.
Stalvey said towels and tarps are good forms of protection to absorb some of the impact.
State Farm will have mobile claim sites set up in Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Rock Hill, and Union over the next two to three weeks.
If you're a State Farm customer, you're encouraged to call your State Farm agent or 1 (800) SF-CLAIM first if you have damage.
