Grand Strander joins state transportation commission

Mike Wooten, the head of the Grand Strand Business Alliance, has been appointed to the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission.
Wooten is the first to represent the new 7th District.
Wooten says bringing an interstate to the Grand Strand is on the top of his agenda. "Obviously our priority is I-73, but I'm one of now eight commissioners," he said. "I think the commission's priority is trying to figure out how to properly maintain the roads we've already got."
To raise money to take care of state roads, Wooten supports raising the state gas tax. "I believe that a modest increase in gas prices would do a lot of good for the DOT, and while it would be somewhat painful for the traveling public, so are degraded bridges and potholes," he said.
