Santee Cooper is getting ready to start the process of tearing down its Grainger Generating Station plant.
They'll be taking apart the administrative offices and generating equipment, according to a news release Wednesday. The building is located on Highway 501 in Conway.
The work is set to begin later this month and is estimated to take about two years. Plans for the site include clearing the property with the idea that it could be reused for a commercial venture, according to the release.
The plant was closed Dec. 31, 2012.
