Governor Nikki Haley will meet with Atlantic Beach officials Tuesday morning to discuss Bikefest.
Atlantic Beach Town Manager William Booker said the meeting will take place during a specially called town council meeting.
Booker said the meeting will be open to the public but will include an executive session in which Haley and council will discuss security issues.
Haley's Communications Director Doug Mayer said Haley will answer questions from the media after the meeting.
Haley has been very vocal about wanting to put an end to the town's annual Bikefest after several shootings occurred in Myrtle Beach during the festival over Memorial Day weekend.
Booker said the meeting with Haley was initiated when she said on June 3 that she would be reaching out to the town about the Bikefest issues. He said since then they have been working to figure out when the meeting could take place.
Town officials have said they don't plan to end the festival, saying it won't fix problems with violence in surrounding communities.
We have asked Governor Haley's office what they hope to gain from the meeting and will post more details as we get them.
