Gov. McMaster: 885 Tropical Storm Irma evacuees sheltered in SC

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) - As Tropical Storm Irma landed in South Carolina on Monday, 885 evacuees were housed in 25 shelters as of noon, Gov. Henry McMaster and state emergency response officials said.

As the storm continues to affect the Palmetto State, McMaster said residents should continue to pay close attention to weather conditions throughout the state.

More than 140,000 power outages have been reported in the state and thousands of linemen are working to fix them.

A mandatory evacuation is still in effect for the following barrier islands: Edisto Beach in Colleton County; Daufuskie, Fripp, Harbor, Hunting and Hilton Head islands in Beaufort County; and Knowles and Tullifiny in Jasper County.
