Gov. Haley's spokesman takes new role

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's chief spokesman has stepped down to take a role in her expected re-election campaign.
Rob Godfrey told The Associated Press his job as Haley's spokesman ended Monday. His new title is political adviser to the Republican governor.
Haley has yet to announce whether she'll seek a second term, though it's widely expected. Her former chief of staff, Tim Pearson, left her office last fall to run her potential campaign.
Godfrey has been Haley's spokesman since she took office in January 2011. He was also chief spokesman for her transition team following her November 2010 election.
Haley called Godfrey a trusted friend and adviser. She says she'll continue to appreciate his counsel going forward.
Doug Mayer will step into Godfrey's role in the governor's office.
