      Gnome roams to Myrtle Beach

      You've seen him in commercials, skiing and enjoying a nice hotel bubble bath. But Friday, Travelocity's front man, the Roaming Gnome, landed in Myrtle Beach.

      With his signature blue coat and red pointy hat, he paid visits to sites throughout the state, even driving in a BMW at the Greer plant.

      Elaine Kubik travels with the Roaming Gnome. She tells us their visit is a joint venture between the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and Travelocity to promote several sites in the state through social media like Facebook and Twitter. "We've gone to Greenville, Anderson, we're here in Myrtle Beach and then we head to Charleston," Kubik said.

      With nearly 80,000 Facebook fans and around 12,500 Twitter followers, the Roaming Gnome has quite an audience. "People are obsessed with the gnome because he's traveled the world, he's very worldly and he knows what's best out there, so if he's coming to Myrtle Beach it must be because Myrtle Beach is awesome," Kubik said.

      The Roaming Gnome saw some of Myrtle Beach's biggest attractions including the Surfside Beach Pier and the new SkyWheel on Ocean Blvd. He also proved to be quite the thrill seeker, riding shotgun in a go-cart for several laps at the Nascar SpeedPark.
