Former Pee Dee teacher, coach accused of inappropriate relations with student
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) - Christopher Clark, 42, turned himself in Wednesday morning to the Chesterfield County Detention Center on charges of sexual misconduct with one of his 16-year-old students, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks.
Clark is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with the student on several different occasions while they were at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School, where he taught.
The incidents allegedly occurred between December 2016 and December 2017.
Brooks said Clark no longer works at the school and has been dismissed from his position as head coach of the Chesterfield girls basketball team.
“We must protect the trust that parents have in teachers and their influence in the lives of our children,” said Brooks, who stressed Clark is only accused and has not been convicted of any crime. “We must assure parents that the school district and the sheriff’s office will do everything in our power to protect our students. Inappropriate relationships between teachers and students can cause lifelong damage."
Clark is awaiting a bond hearing at the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
