Former Marion Police officers charged with using unreasonable force

A federal grand jury in Florence returned a two-count indictment on Wednesday charging Eric Walters and Franklin Brown with using unreasonable force against a female citizen, according to the Department of Justice.

The former officers with the City of Marion Police Department are charged with one count of Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.

The indictment alleges that on April 2, 2013, Walters and Brown each used their tasers multiple times on the woman, resulting in bodily injury.

The officers were fired following the incident.

They were arrested and charged with with Misconduct In Office and Assault and Battery First Degree.

If convicted, they each face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

This case is being investigated by the South Carolina Division of the FBI.
