Former Horry County volunteer fire chief found guilty of sexual assault

Former Horry County volunteer fire chief Talmedge Rowell, 54 was found guilty by a jury Tuesday of sexually assaulting three girls ages 14,12 and 3, according to Assistant Solicitor Martin Spratlin.

Rowell was charged in July of 2011 with Criminal Sexual Conduct, first degree.

Rowell was found guilty of two charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor, second degree and two counts of Lewd Acts on a Minor.

He was sentenced to 15 years for each charge, with each 15 year sentence being served concurrently, meaning the sentences will be served at the same time.

Horry County Fire Rescue Spokeswoman Leslie Yancey say Rowell was a volunteer fire chief for District 38 for about 30 years. She says his volunteer status was terminated.
