Former American Idol contestant to perform in Florence

Jimmy Charles, a former American Idol contestant, is bringing his band to Florence.

He will take part in a fundraiser concert to benefit the Law Enforcement Advocacy Foundation or LEAF.

The grassroots group has formed to help fund necessary safety items for law enforcement in Florence County.

Charles appeared in Season 9 of American Idol and Nashville Star in 2007.

He wrote a song dedicated to the memory of the late Florence County deputy Joey Rogers.

He was killed in the line of duty back in 1997.

Charles says he's so excited to play in Florence for such a worthy cause.

" For me to be able to do what I love to do, to be able to support an organization where people are risking their lives, it's just humbling, " said Charles.

The benefit concert takes place Saturday, May 11, at Creek Ratz on South Cashua Drive in Florence.

The events start at 8 p.m.

Donations are welcome.
