Florence County to build new Emergency Operations Center
Florence County, S.C. (WPDE) —
Florence County dispatchers moved into their new state of the art 911 center near the Florence County Law Enforcement Center off of Friendfield Road in Effingham, according to the Facebook page of the Florence County Emergency Management Department.
The 911 center is housed in the newly built $4.9 million Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that also houses Florence County Emergency Management.
Funding for the facility came by way of revenue generated from the penny sales tax extension referendum that voters approved in November of 2014.
The departments have been housed at the Florence County Law Enforcement Center for more than 20 years.
Emergency Management officials said it was time for a new facility that could better accommodate their growing needs.
Officials said a open house for the new facility will be held soon.
