A Conway woman bought a powerball lottery ticket at the Tiger Mart on Wright Blvd in Conway and won $1 million and has claimed the Powerball prize from last Wednesday night's drawing.
The woman didn't want to be identified, but lottery officials say it was the first lottery ticket she had purchased. She said she bought the ticket because she was feeling upset and thought it would make her feel better.
The $2 ticket overcame the 1 in 5 million plus odds to match all five numbers drawn on August 1 to win $1 million (3, 16, 48, 56, and 58 PB: 4).
The Tiger Mart got a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the South Carolina Education Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina's students.
The lottery says more than $2.8 billion has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
