The Red Cross is helping a family of three who lost their home early Friday in the Dunbar community of Georgetown County.
The fire started around 1 a.m. in the attic of the house on Linen Loop.
Jannie Greene who lives in the home spotted the fire first. She said she had gotten up to go the bathroom when she noticed a funny smell.
"I walked into the kitchen area and the scent got stronger, and I looked up over the refrigerator at the vent and I could see fire up in the attic. That's when I went back and woke everyone and told them to get up and get out. Then I called 911," said Greene.
Greene along with two of her family members and two dogs, got out safely.
They have been living in the home for 30 years, but now it's a complete loss.
It took about an hour for 22 firefighters with Horry County, Georgetown County and Williamsburg County to get the fire under control.
They are still on scene managing hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
