Laurinburg police charged the father of a 5-month-old who died in December 2012 with First Degree Murder.
They arrested Samuel Emmanuel Christian Sr., 23, of Laurinburg, Monday and placed him in the Scotland County Jail.
On December 17, 2012, Scotland Memorial Hospital workers called police about a child in the emergency room with head trauma, possibly from an assault.
Officers were informed the hemorrhaging was consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.
The child, Samuel Emmanuel Christian Jr., about 5 months old, was later transferred to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
The child received treatment, but there was no indication of brain activity.
On December 19, 2012, the child was pronounced dead.
Laurinburg police conducted an investigation, final results from the autopsy were received and reviewed.
No bond was set and a first appearance is scheduled for July 3 in District Court of Scotland County.
