Family receives present too big to fit under Christmas tree

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) - Many families are spending their last weekend before Christmas wrapping or shopping for gifts, but one Conway family received something that wouldn't fit under the tree.

Marine Cpl. Gage Campbell returned home from Japan Saturday afternoon.

"Our biggest present is arriving via plane," said Campbell's Mother, Teresa Brigman.

Campbell's homecoming comes as an extra special gift to his grandmother, Carolyn Perritt. She has been diagnosed with stage four Breast Cancer that has spread into her bones.

"The fact that I'll have all my children and grandchildren together for another Christmas is just beyond words," said Perritt.

Campbell was welcomed home by a flag line at Myrtle Beach International Airport put together by the Blue Star Mothers and Rolling Thunder.

He will get to spend the next two weeks at home before returning to his base in Hawaii.

Also this weekend, more than 800 soldiers returned to South Carolina from Kuwait to celebrate the holidays with their family.
