Faith-based groups meet to improve homeless situation in Myrtle Beach

Several dozen faith-based organizations came together Wednesday to find solutions to the problem of homelessness in Myrtle Beach.

Representatives from New Directions, which is an umbrella organization that deals with homelessness met with Mayor John Rhodes and other groups to talk about the problem.

Cathy Jenkins, the group's Executive Director said today's meeting was all about partnering with faith-based organizations on things like job training, recovery programs and other resources.

"The homeless situation here in Horry County is a community-wide problem, a community wide issue and it's going to take everybody in the community to solve the issue, to help people get out of poverty and homelessness," Jenkins explained.

Jenkins added that many of the faith-based leaders demonstrated their united front by already beginning to plan a prayer breakfast that would help those in need.
