Ex-Justice Stevens backs amendment on campaign funds

Is a constitutional fix needed for the nation's way of financing political campaigns?

Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens forcefully argued on Wednesday that a constitutional amendment is needed to repair what he described as a "very broken system".

Republican Senator Ted Cruz appeared before the same senate hearing and said people should be allowed to give unlimited contributions, arguing what's needed is less regulation.

But the Senator added that immediate disclosure is needed.

Kevin Howell with The Washington Times is following the story and points out that goes completely against the republican grain.

"This goes against a lot of conservative arguments that have been given recently that disclosure harms donors because it might put them under scrutiny." says Howell.
