A funeral for the victims of last Friday’s deadly crash in Darlington was held at Darlington High School Sunday.

Whether they were friends, family or strangers, dozens of people gathered at the school to remember the Douglas-Rouse family.

"I didn’t know the family, but I was just showing my respect today to this family, friends," said Jamie Wilson who lives in Florence.

"They always was loving people. When you see them, they always was together. Everybody always had a smile," Caneisha Carraway said.

Carraway says she graduated high school with Chikari Douglas-Rouse and wants people to remember her happy spirit.

"Her bright smile. Every time Chikari seen you she was always a fun loving person. She always had the same spirit. She always was happy. It was never a dull moment with Chikari," Carraway said.

She says the 2008 graduating class hosted a barbecue to raise money for the family.

"All the love that was shown through this time, it was great," Carraway said.

People who didn’t know the victims personally still wanted to be there.

"To just show them that somebody cares, somebody loves them and our heart felt sympathy goes out to this community," Wilson said.
