Honor Flight is an organization that makes it possible for World War II veterans to see the memorial built to honor their service.
The National World War II Memorial was opened to the public in 2004.
It's estimated that each day, nearly 1,000 World War II veterans pass on, many without ever having been to Washington to see the memorial. Honor Flight's goal is to help every single veteran in America, willing and able of getting on a plane or a bus, visit their memorial. Top priority is given to senior or terminally ill veterans.
The amazing thing about Honor Flight is that these veterans get to fly for free. The flights, though, come at a cost... about $60,000 per flight. Each flight carries roughly 90 veterans, 54 guardians, and necessary medical personnel.
WPDE NewsChannel 15 along with Movin 94.5 and Easy Radio will join with Honor Flight's Grand Strand chapter to collect money for an October 26th flight.
We'll be at Wholesale Furniture at 1951 Mister Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th. We'll be live during Good Morning Carolinas, in updates throughout the day, and during NewsChannel 15 at 6 & 7.
If you can, we hope you'll take the time to stop by and make a donation.
