Myrtle Beach city and Horry County officials met Monday to prepare for the Myrtle Beach Area Disaster Recovery Symposium.
The event will be held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on January 31st.
Some of the topics that will be highlighted include planning for disasters, insurance, evacuations and re-entry communications.
Officials explained that this is all about trying to prepare before a disaster strikes.
"If you do have a bad disaster, knowing what to do and where to relocate and what your insurance company will or will not do, what the city will or will not do, what the County will or will not do, it's a little bit late when your cell phone's not working and your roof is leaking," said Tourism Committee member Kenneth McKelvey.
The event will cost $25, will be open to the public and will go from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January 31st. The cost includes a meal.
