The Dillon County Board of Education voted Wednesday to approve the merger of Dillon District 1, Lake View, and Dillon District 2, Dillon, to consolidate administrative services.
The Lake View School Board sent a resolution to the county board asking to allow the merger. Lake View Superintendent Stephen Laird says pending state budget cuts and the loss of federal stimulus funds have hurt the district.
Laird says the district was going to come up short at least $600,000 this school year.
At this point, the specifics of the merger haven't been finalized. But we know Laird's job will be cut. The county board has yet to determine what, if any more, positions will be cut.
There are three schools in Lake View with about 850 students.
The merger takes effect July 1st.
